ABOUT THE COMPANY: LA GALIGO

2012

Originally built as a traditional Indonesian phinisi, La Galigo entered a new chapter in 2012 when the vessel underwent a major refit. The vision was ambitious from the start: create a liveaboard designed by divers, for divers: one capable of long-range expeditions across Indonesia while still feeling warm, comfortable, and personal onboard.

2013, The First Expeditions

By 2013, La Galigo officially began operating expedition-style dive cruises across Eastern Indonesia. The early years were hands-on in every sense. Guests were welcomed like friends, itineraries were adapted around conditions and wildlife sightings, and the atmosphere onboard felt intimate rather than commercial. The company quickly gained attention among divers looking for something more authentic than large-scale tourism experiences. Many guests who joined during these first seasons would later return year after year.

2015

By 2015, La Galigo had begun establishing its identity as a liveaboard created for divers who wanted to experience Indonesia beyond the ordinary. With the vessel operating across some of the country’s most remarkable diving regions, each expedition was shaped around discovery, meaningful encounters, and more time spent exploring beneath the surface.

2017

The company focused heavily on improving onboard comfort and guest experience. Cabins and common areas were refined, dive operations became more streamlined, and the crew culture onboard became one of La Galigo’s defining strengths. The atmosphere remained relaxed and personal despite the company’s growth. Rather than positioning itself as ultra-luxury, La Galigo focused on creating meaningful and memorable expeditions with a strong sense of community onboard.

2019

By 2019, La Galigo’s reputation had continued to grow internationally among experienced divers, underwater photographers, dive clubs, and travellers seeking longer and more immersive expeditions. Guests were drawn not only to Indonesia’s extraordinary marine life, but also to the personal service, relaxed atmosphere, and strong sense of community created onboard.

2021

Ten years after the original refit began, La Galigo had evolved into one of Indonesia’s recognized boutique liveaboards. What started as a single vessel project had become a respected name within the global dive community through consistency, authenticity, and years of carefully building trust with guests. By this stage, many crew members had spent years onboard, creating a strong family-like atmosphere that guests frequently described as one of the highlights of the experience.

2023

More than a decade after the vessel’s transformation began, La Galigo remained deeply rooted in the same values that shaped its earliest years. Many guests returned not only for the diving, but for the people, atmosphere, and sense of adventure that had become inseparable from the La Galigo experience.

2025

More than a decade after the vessel’s transformation began, La Galigo remained deeply rooted in the same values that shaped its earliest years. Many guests returned not only for the diving, but for the people, atmosphere, and sense of adventure that had become inseparable from the La Galigo experience.

Today

Today, La Galigo continues exploring Indonesia’s most remote waters with the same spirit that inspired the refit back in 2012. From Komodo to Raja Ampat and beyond, the mission remains simple: to create unforgettable journeys through one of the most extraordinary marine regions on Earth thoughtfully, safely, and with genuine passion for the ocean.
